Otoplasty — Services

What Is otoplasty?

Otoplasty is a procedure to correct the shape, size, and position of the ears. Most commonly, patients seek treatment for protruding ears, which can cause significant psychological discomfort, especially in children and teenagers. The surgery can also correct asymmetry, reduce overly large ears, or reconstruct the ear after injury.

Dr. Khaustov performs otoplasty using modern cartilage-shaping techniques. The approach creates a natural ear shape with the correct angle of protrusion from the head. The operation is performed through an incision behind the ear, making the scar completely invisible.

Otoplasty is one of the most rewarding operations in plastic surgery, as the result is immediately visible and permanent. At Figura Clinic in Odesa, the procedure is available for both adults and children from age 6, when the ear cartilage is sufficiently developed.

How the Procedure Works

1

Consultation

Examination and assessment of ear anatomy, determining the optimal correction angle. Discussion of expectations and recovery details.

2

Preparation

Standard blood tests. No special preparation is needed. Children may require a pediatrician consultation.

3

Surgery

Local anesthesia (adults) or general anesthesia (children). Duration: 40–90 minutes. Cartilage reshaping through an incision behind the ear.

4

Recovery

Elastic headband worn continuously for 7 days, then at night for 3–4 weeks. Sutures removed after 10 days. Return to normal activities within a week.

Recovery

Recovery from otoplasty is relatively quick. An elastic headband is worn continuously for the first week, then only at night for 3–4 weeks. Moderate discomfort and swelling resolve within 7–10 days. Sutures behind the ear are removed on day 10. Return to work or school is possible after 7–10 days. Contact sports should be avoided for 1.5–2 months. The final result is assessed at 2–3 months.
